Contents
Equipment care and adjustment
- Filing the saw blade (checking a right and a left tooth, correct angles, sharpness and skew), optional manual method
- Disassembling/assembling the blade and pairing different types of cutting equipment and guards
- Adjusting the harness/saw for good ergonomics
Sawing technology
- Starting the saw
- Sawing even-thickness logs on coarse stumps
- Sweep clearing for thin material (height control and undamaged main trunks)

Objectives
The aim of the training is to provide the knowledge and skills required to safely and ergonomically use a brushcutter for various common tasks, e.g. clearing small undergrowth (less than about 2 m in length) and working with a grass trimmer. (Note that clearing longer trees and targeted felling techniques are not included).
- Knowledge of the applicable safety regulations and the risks associated with the use of the brushcutter as described above (e.g. through relevant parts in the summary of AFS 2000:2)
- Skills to start and handle the started chainsaw safely
- Skills to adjust harness/saw for good ergonomics
- Basic sawing techniques (setting, speed, control and stability)
- Skills and knowledge of ergonomic and safe working techniques when clearing small brush and trimming grass
- Skills to carry out daily maintenance of equipment including filing and beveling of saw blade
- Knowledge and skills to carry out checks on saw and protective equipment required for safe and correct operation
- Knowledge and attitudes that prioritize safety and avoid or stop inappropriate tasks (too difficult and dangerous for own knowledge and skills)

- Overall work planning incl. choice of sawing technique
- Directional felling with single cut, replot sawing and "saved edge" technique
Multiple choice questions in the areas:
- Special safety regulations when felling trees over 2 m in length
- Working methods and aids when felling medium (blade reaches through) and large trees (double cut required)
- Hazardous elements when clearing
- Work planning and follow-up
Objective
The training aims to provide the knowledge and skills required to safely and ergonomically use a clearing chainsaw in normal young forest clearing and undergrowth clearing.
- Knowledge of the applicable safety regulations when using a chainsaw when felling trees longer than 2 m and diameter up to about twice the cutting depth and the risks associated with the use. the remaining relevant parts in the summary of AFS 2000:2)
- Knowledge and skills to safely and ergonomically fell "single cut" trees (up to the blade cutting depth, 6-8 cm stump diameter) with control of felling direction
- Knowledge and skills to safely and ergonomically use the "resawing technique" and the "saved edge technique" on trees larger than the cutting depth of the blade with control of felling direction
- Knowledge and skills for good work planning (both general and detailed)
- - Knowledge and skills to saw trees up to the cutting depth of the blade with control of felling direction Knowledge and skills to saw higher branches and cut the tree into sections
- Awareness of the risks associated with trunks in tension
