Level C

Purpose and objectives:
The aim of the training is to provide the knowledge and skills required to safely use chainsaws and felling equipment for difficult and hazardous work in connection with forestry work, such as felling difficult trees, removing trees that are difficult to fell and recovering wind-felled trees.

• Knowledge of the applicable safety regulations for the use of chainsaws in advanced forestry work as described above and the risks associated with their use (e.g. through the relevant parts of AFS 2012:1)
• Knowledge and skills to reconnoitre, plan and carry out felling of 'difficult' trees with good control and safety, as well as to assess what cannot/should not be done with a chainsaw. Good knowledge of the possibilities to increase safety by selecting the appropriate felling method/felling equipment and using different types of measures/securing devices for particularly sensitive felling operations, such as around power lines, roads and houses.
• Knowledge and skills to reconnoitre, plan and carry out the clearing and removal of fallen trees and trees damaged by e.g. windfall and snowfall with good control and safety, as well as to assess what cannot/should not be done with a chainsaw. Good knowledge of available working methods. Note that in connection with extensive clearing of storm-felled forest on normal forest land, additional training with repetition and instructions on current working methods and safety equipment is required.
• Knowledge and skills to use various powerful felling aids such as winches, felling straighteners, multiple wedges in width and in multiple layers.
• Knowledge and skills to safely fell, split and cut tree trunks and branches in tension.
