Level B

Purpose and objectives:
The aim of the training is to provide the knowledge and skills required to safely use chainsaws in normal forestry work such as tree felling, pruning and cutting. (Please note that felling of particularly difficult trees, recovery of wind-felled trees and removal of stuck trees are only covered in general terms).

Course length 2-3 days incl. theoretical and practical test.
Target group, Forest workers, forest owners and others who fell "ordinary" trees with a chainsaw.

Prerequisites - Chainsaw license level A.

• Knowledge of the safety regulations applicable to the use of chainsaws in normal forestry work and the risks associated with their use (e.g. through the remaining relevant parts of the summary of AFS 2012:1)
• Knowledge and skills to survey, plan and carry out felling of 'normal' trees of varying sizes with good control and safety.
• Knowledge and skills to use various common felling aids (at least crowbars, wedges and maybe also spiked lanyards)
• Knowledge and skills to prune and cut down felled trees in a safe and workload-friendly manner.
• Knowledge of the special risks associated with wind-felled trees, stuck trees and trunks in tension as well as a general knowledge of some common working methods. (Turning down trees with crowbars/turnbuckles, bending trees backwards with pulpwood, root rolls, cutting in moderate tension incl. sawing from two sides and risk areas)
• Knowledge and skills to use and care for accessories such as lifting scissors, lifting hooks and measuring tapes.
• Knowledge and attitudes that prioritize safety and avoid or discontinue inappropriate tasks (too difficult and dangerous in relation to own knowledge and skills).
