The crew involved in commercial thinnings must have knowledge and skills which permit them:
- to efficiently and safely operate and maintain the equipment used.
- understand the management system/methods in which the equipment is used and translate management directives into practical use.
To be successful in logging education it is essential for us to get total backup from the management,
as well as responsibility for the projects.
Whit out skilled operators, technology is nothing but a pile of complicated scrap.
Motivation and bonus systems is also areas that we put stress on.
We educate the loggers in groups of five. Each group get three days of basic training in the blocks below. After these three days each man gets an individual training program, so that he can practice by himself for a few days. When all groups have got their basic training, follows one day of control and further teaching. After minimum one month, we come back for two days for a final check up, and design of a personal training package for the future. Selecting help instructors from the best loggers is also made at this time.
Let us make it clear " up front ". Any forest operation undertaken will create some interference with the ecosystem. Therefore every effort must be made to minimize the effect on soil, water, flora and fauna when the thinning operations is planned and carried out. Field studies have clearly shown that properly planned and executed operations, can be done with minimal damage to the stand and the soil.
